One of my most serious concerns as I spend less and less money on food is that I seem to get more and more food! My cupboards are full, my refrigerator and freezer and space in my bedroom closet are almost filled to capacity. I’m seriously considering buying some risers for the bed so I can store food under there. It’s an important matter to be sure of not letting anything go to waste, to let nothing spoil.
So, anyway… today’s thing is my sprouts. I think I got a little carried away with the new seeds I bought from sproutpeople.com. Even with the shipping, the total cost of 2 pounds of alfalfa seeds, and a pound of radish seeds and broccoli seeds and clover seeds — all of that, with shipping to my door, was cheaper than the same amount would have been from driving to Whole Foods to buy it. It was worth it from Whole Foods, don’t get me wrong. That was still a good deal, but this was even better.
SO… anyway… in my happiness last Wednesday I put 2 tablespoons of alfalfa seeds in a jar, along with 2 tablespoons of radish seeds, and 2 tablespoons fo mung beans (mung bean sprouts are SO cheap!) and a tablespoon of broccoli seeds and a tablespoon of clover seeds — a total of 8 tablespoons of seeds to sprout.
Now, a nice bunch of finished sprouts for a salad weighs about 2 ounces.
The sprouts I started last week are finished today. I have more than a pound and a half of fantastic, delicious, beautiful, health-giving sprouts!
I almost made too much food — for $2.27.
